With so many choices, it may seem very difficult to select a sleep apnea treatment that actually works. Any individual who has been diagnosed with sleep apnea is in need of a prompt remedy. If this condition is ignored, it may lead to heart disease, a stroke or other serious medical problem.

In order to select the best sleep apnea treatment, you must consider whether or not the procedure is safe. What type of product warning does it have? If you are looking for an anti-snoring device, you should look for one that has been medically tested and doctor recommended. One such product is, for instance, called the Sleep Genie. While supporting the jaw, it helps the mouth to remain closed using a comfortable nylon lycra blend. It is important to understand that the Sleep Genie is not intended to be a cure for sleep apnea, but rather a product that can work to improve sleep quality. In addition, apnea sufferers who use the Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine may benefit from the added use of the Sleep Genie, which helps to keep the mouth closed. Users of the CPAP machine need to sleep with their mouth closed in order to keep the air, provided by the machine, from escaping during sleep.

Other natural sleep apnea treatment methods include the removal of household allergens with the help of air filtration devices, sleeping on your side instead of your back, giving up cigarettes and/or alcohol and paying close attention to your diet. Obesity is one of the leading causes of snoring, which is a direct sign of sleep apnea. Therefore, if you are overweight or have been diagnosed as being obese, it may be time to consider a medically supervised diet and exercise program. In addition to being a good sleep apnea treatment, losing weight will help to improve your overall health.

It is important to realize the difference between sleep apnea and just plain snoring. Snoring is random and does not cause additional problems, other than sleep disruption, for the sufferer. Sleep apnea, however, is diagnosed when the sufferer snores heavily and stops breathing completely on more than one occasion during the night. Because the latter is of major concern to physicians, it should be treated with an effective sleep apnea treatment as quickly as possible. Sufferers who are looking for a good sleep apnea treatment should select one that works quickly in order to get instant results and relief.

This article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be used as, or in place of, professional medical advice. Before beginning any treatment for snoring, please consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and remedy.

EKGs can assist doctors in diagnosing and determining any current or past heart abnormalities and are often a regular screening for those with heart disease. Through electrodes attached at various strategic body points, the EKG machine records the electrical impulses of the heart. The results of the impulses are displayed on a computer monitor and then printed onto graph paper. The attending physician or EKG technician interprets your heart health by reading the graphed EKG image.

EKGs are a critical tool for medical professionals to diagnose and treat heart ailments. The EKG reading of your heart is compared to the reading of a standard/normal heart in order to get an idea of your heart function. Abnormalities in the heart rate, heart rhythm or contractions and relaxations can signal the presence of past heart attacks, heart disease or coronary artery disease. If any of these symptoms are present, your doctor will refer you for further testing.

There are literally dozens of different methods for interpreting EKGs but most begin with a search for recurring patterns. One of the first things EKG technicians look for is heart rate. Electrodes are used to stimulate the heart into contracting and then relaxing. The first spike in the reading (the “P” spike) represents the impulses from the upper chamber of the heart. A flatter line called the “PR” interval represents a bridge between the contracting and relaxing of the atria. Each EKG has various other spikes and dips representing heart electrical waves; each spike or dip is referred to by an alphabetic letter.

Most normal hearts have a pattern with a slightly varying rhythm. This is called sinus arrhythmia and is considered normal and healthy. The absence of sinus arrhythmia may indicate other problems with the heart. In EKG interpretation, the lack of sinus arrhythmia has been seen to predict the occurrence of sudden death from heart attack or heart failure. The results of an EKG may become the basis for additional treatment. Your doctor will decide if further evaluation is needed. EKG technicians are highly trained and skilled medical professionals; many physicians consider these technicians to be the first authority in interpreting the EKG results.

Please Note: Professional EKG readings require a great amount of training and education. Since many methods exist to interpret these readings, it is often difficult for non-medical people to understand the terminology. If you are having an EKG performed, your technician will be glad to answer any questions regarding the EKG reading. If you notice something that seems abnormal to you, the technician may be able to calm your fears and by explaining the results in layman’s terms.

Patients who have serious chronic bronchitis have an increased risk of death, often living only up to four years after diagnosis. There are ways to prevent the disease, though; and treatments are available.

Smoking is the leading cause of bronchitis so it is highly advisable to quit. Quitting smoking can reverse the effects of chronic bronchitis and allow patients to lead a more healthy life. Drinking plenty of fluids will also help acute sufferers. Though acute bronchitis is not nearly as serious as chronic, it can cause complications if left untreated.

Early diagnosis and treatment is critical in successfully reducing the symptoms associated with bronchitis. Antibiotics are often prescribed to help eliminate infection. Also, inhalers are generally used to help temporary flair-ups such as coughing and wheezing. This can help the patient breathe more comfortably.

In more severe cases, oxygen therapy may be necessary. The patient may use an oxygen tank to help breathing and respiratory functions. In extreme cases, a lung transplant may be necessary to replace one or both diseased lungs. Because lung transplants require a donor that is matched closely to the patient, these are sometimes difficult to accomplish. There are also risks involved such as rejection of the new lung and reactions to medication.

A healthy diet and exercise program are also recommended for easing symptoms of bronchitis. Regular aerobic exercise is helpful in expanding lung capacity and assisting in breathing. Walking is a great low impact exercise for those suffering from bronchitis. In addition, breathing exercises can be helpful. Learning how to take slow, deep breaths will help strengthen the muscles and relax the patient.

For acute bronchitis it is recommended to stay away from dairy foods as this will increase the amount of sputum generated, complicating symptoms. Instead, use cayenne pepper, garlic and chicken stock as they are all mucus clearing foods. Aromatherapy using eucalyptus will help soothe irritated lungs and help regulate clearer breathing. Warm compresses or hot showers can also clear mucus and help steady breathing.

Bronchitis can be a minor affliction cured within a few days or a chronic condition that requires more radical treatment. Use of antibiotics and natural remedies are helpful for acute bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis may require additional steps such as inhalers, oxygen therapy and even surgery. Bronchitis is, however, preventable. The most important preventative is to not smoke and to stay away from second hand smoke.

Bunion is one of the most common problems faced by many people. It is more common than you can imagine. The medical term for this condition is known as Hallux Valgus. The problem arises when a bump starts developing on the inside of your big toe. This comes along with severe pain and swelling. The swelling is caused due to a bone which protrudes towards the inside of your foot. The big toe joint gets bigger which pressurizes other toes. These pressured toes cause severe pain mainly while walking. It can also occur to the joint of your little toe which is known as bunionette.

One of the common reasons to suffer from this condition is by wearing tight shoes. Cramping your feet in a small pair of shoes can cause such problems. Bunion also arises due to certain foot injury as well as stress. Women are affected by this condition mainly due to high-heeled, pointy-toed shoes which cramp the air causing problems to your feet. Bunions are also formed to a flatfeet person. It runs in the family as it is a hereditary problem. Older people and many young people suffer from arthritis problem which is also a good reason for development of bunion.

Some of the most common symptom for bunion is severe pain. The area becomes red and tender causing inflammation. There is also a burning sensation and sometimes numbness. You can develop other problems like in-growth of toe nail and well as sores between the toes. If these symptoms do not satisfy your doubts, you can check it with your local doctor by taking an x-ray. Bunion can be rectified only through surgery, but you can use some home remedies to prevent such problem and also get some relief.

Home Remedies

First thing first, you have to buy a good pair of shoes. Other than looks it should be useful for your feet. Always wear shoes which have wider toe space. It should be comfortable and should also provide the maximum protection.

You can use padding over the bunion area which would minimize the pain.

Apply ice pack several times a day to reduce inflammation.

You can also buy bunion shields, bunion bandages and bunion night splints which are a small way to provide some relief to your feet.

Try easing the pain by massaging your foot in a perpendicular motion.

Compression of heating pads on regular intervals provides great help to your feet.

Soaking your feet in hot water is by far one of the best remedies for bunion.

Warning: The reader of this article should exercise all precautionary measures while following instructions on the home remedies from this article. Avoid using any of these products if you are allergic to it. The responsibility lies with the reader and not with the site or the writer.

Asthma is a serious lung disease effecting over 20 million people in the US alone. An asthma attack is caused by a trigger, which can be any external stimulant such as perfume, food, air pollution, cold air, animals, dust, etc., which our bodies react to. Knowing what your personal triggers are and avoiding them will help greatly to prevent asthma attacks. However, what triggers an asthma attack in some people may not even bother another asthma sufferer at all.

To make things more confusing, sometimes a trigger will cause a mild reaction one day and then a severe one the next day. This could be the result of being exposed to multiple triggers, for example one of your known triggers could be pollen, but when combined with a few new unknown triggers – fabric softener, detergent, perfume or a food additive can hit very hard and trigger a major attack. On days when you are feeling tired and haven’t had enough sleep or are under stress, you may also find that things which never seemed to bother you previously now suddenly do.

As you see tracing them can be rather complex and requires a bit of detective work to track down and eliminate or minimize these triggers at home or at work. Keeping track of your asthma attacks by writing a journal for a few days is a good way to start. First it’s a good idea to note how you were feeling the day you had an attack, if you were tired or didn’t sleep well, had a fight with your friend.

What did you eat? Make this detailed and include food ingredients, additives and coloring since they can be a trigger for many people. Where did you go that day? Were there weeds or flowers blooming nearby, animals, damp moldy smells around you? Did you start using a new detergent, fabric softener or household cleaner? Make a note of any exercise you do and your body’s reaction to it. On one particular day did the exercise have negative results? Why? What was the weather like? What was the room where you exercised like? If the room is where you regularly go to exercise, was there anything different about it on that day?

After only a few days of writing in your journal you will soon see a pattern emerging. You will have uncovered your asthma triggers and now you can take control and prevent an asthma attack by avoiding, reducing or eliminating them.

However it just isn’t practical or even possible to control or eliminate all triggers, particularly outside the home, at work, school or in public places. Fortunately, there is a safe non-drug solution that you should know about, a simple and natural allergy and asthma treatment, which many people have found to be very effective.

Vitamin B is more often referred to today as the B vitamins to better relate that it is actually a group of 8 different vitamins, with varying functions and sources. B vitamins, like vitamin C, are water soluble, which means that extra levels of B vitamins are excreted by the body, though small amounts are stored in the liver and toxicity, while rare, is possible.

Most people will recognize many of the B vitamins by name. They include thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin (B1, 2, and 3, respectively), as well as folic acid (B9). The other four B vitamins are less commonly referred to and are: pyridoxine (B6), cyanocobalamin (B12), pantothenic acid, and biotin.

The B vitamins serve many functions in the body, including the breakdown of different kinds of foods into energy, maintenance and protection of the nervous system, production of blood cells, and maintenance of healthy skin.

Deficiencies of most B vitamins are rare, because they are found in many different food sources. While sources abound though, deficiencies can exist if someone has a condition that affects their ability to absorb or use B vitamins. Whole grain breads and cereals contain thiamine, riboflavin, pyridoxine, pantothenic acid and folic acid. Milk contains riboflavin, niacin, and vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin). Foods with lots of protein like eggs and meats contain B vitamins, especially red and organ meats.

Alcoholics, along with being susceptible to many other health problems, can be vulnerable to thiamine deficiency, also known as beriberi. Alcohol prevents the body from properly absorbing thiamine and many alcoholics also do not eat otherwise healthy diets, so they are doubly prone to lacking this and other vitamins.

Riboflavin is very active in the maintenance of skin and other tissues, so deficiency of this vitamin can cause skin lesions and dermatitis. There has been a lot in the news in the past couple of years about the importance of folic acid for women of child bearing age. Women who have adequate levels of folic acid when they get pregnant are less likely to have babies with neural tube defects. The folic acid must be present before pregnancy because these types of birth defects occur in the first weeks of pregnancy, and oftentimes women will not even know they are pregnant yet.

You may have heard of people getting B12 shots because of a deficiency of this vitamin called pernicious anemia. This occurs particularly in people over 60, because as we age, our stomachs have less ability to produce the substance intrinsic factor, which must combine with B12 taken through food or oral supplements in order to be absorbed by the body.

No plant on earth grows under more stressful conditions than does the goji. It was not surprising when scientists found the little red berry chock full of highly bioactive polysaccharides.

Bioactive polysaccharides are a family of complex carbohydrates that are bound to proteins. They are produced by some plants as an extremely effective defense mechanism against attack against today’s environmental issues and attacks on our bodies. When we eat plants that are rich in polysaccharides, these protective effects are bestowed upon us. Until recent years, scientist had put all polysaccharides together with other carbohydrates such as starches and sugars. They had considered them to be of value only as a source of energy. All that changed when it was discovered that certain types of polysaccharides could cause beneficial changes to the human body.

Four primary bioactive polysaccharides were discovered in Lycium Barbarum (Latin name for goji) named LBP (Lycium Barbarum polysaccharides). These four were named LBP1, LBP2, LBP3, and LBP4.

LBP polysaccharides proved to have exceptional sources of the essential cell sugars (glycoconjugates), rhamnose, xylose, glucose, mannose, arabinose and galactose- that are necessary for proper immune function and cells to communicate. In fact, goji may be the richest source of glyconutrients yet found.

Scientists tested goji berry samples looking for polysaccharide content. They found that there was great variation in levels of LBP’s among the berries from different regions. Berries that are said to be highly effective contain the full range of LBP and not just one or two. Each of the four main polysaccharides has their own distinct benefit. Studies show, for the highest biological activity, all polysaccharides must be present.

Research strongly suggests that goji’s unique polysaccharides work in the body as directors and carriers of cell information and therefore command and control many of the body’s biochemical defense systems.

A bee sting is very painful. To give you a sting a bee loses its life. It leaves a venomous sac which has to be withdrawn immediately. These stings can be fatal if proper measures are not taken. It is known that due to bee stings many people have lost their lives. Swelling, itching and constant pain is what you suffer due to the sting. There are allergic reactions too which can take people’s life. These are some of the severe reaction symptoms you can identify.

-Difficulty in Breathing
-Dizziness
-Anxiety
-Speedy Heartbeat
-Nausea, Cramps and Vomiting
-Abdominal Cramps
-Shock
-Headaches

When attacked, the first thing to do is to remove the venom sac that is left behind by the bee. Don’t try to pull out the sac but rather scrape it off by a blunt object. By removing this sac the chances of spreading reduces marginally.

Home Remedial Measures

-Wash the area carefully with water and soap to heal the wound.

-You can use an ice pack to cover the wound to prevent any swelling and inflammation.

-You can make a paste of baking soda and water to be applied on the wound. Keep it for 15 to 20 minutes.

-Dabbing small amount of household ammonia can provide relief.

-Extract juice from plantain leaves which can be applied on the injured area. This may relieve you from the pain.

-By rubbing granulated sugar on the affected area can help you get rid of the scar due to the wound.

-Mix 1 tsp lavender essential oil and 1 tbsp vegetable oil. Apply this mixture directly on wound except around the eyes.

-By placing a raw onion on the wound it can draw the poison from the wound, helping you to get relief easily.

-Jewelweed is another natural remedy to lessen itching and burning sensation of the wound. Apply the juice of jewelweed on the wood to get proper benefit.

-Make a plaster of 1 tsp yellow dock leaf tincture and 2 tsp baking soda. Apply this mixture on the wound to reduce the allergic reaction of the sting.

-By rubbing wet aspirin on the wound it will negate the burning and inflammatory sensations due to the venom.

-A paste of vinegar, baking soda and meat tenderizer used on the wound helps you get relief from the pain very soon.

-You can dab apple cider vinegar as soon as you remove the stinger. It prevents swelling and spreading of poison.

-Thyme and rosemary mixed with vinegar are also very good to relieve pain.
